Archive Change Shock Horror!
Just before you go on to the archives or searching, Sir, let me wipe
your table and tell
you of a few changes you'll find when you get there. The archives have been
changed dramatically and,
although they look the same, they're different in mysterious and
interesting ways. Please don't give me lots of grief about this,
because it's unavoidable, and I'm doing the very best I can to make
them as good as I can, bearing in mind the change.
If you've read all this already, and are sure you know what's what,
you may proceed. Please note by clicking on any of the links below
you are legally making the statement "I think the new archives are
great, and everything about Sinister is super, really".
P.S. the search is now working properly, sir
Here's what you need to know:
- They're backwards. So "belle and sebastian" now appears as
"naitsabes dna elleb" and.. no. The latest messages now appear at
the top of page 1 for each month, and earlier messages are on later
pages. Geddit? So to see the latest messages, look at the top of
- They're slower. New messages take a lot longer to appear, so
they now do earn their names as "archives" I'm afraid. If you need
up to date messages from the list and you aren't a member, please
join - if you don't like a lot of emails a day, join the digest
version. See the FAQ for details.
- The search is a bit dumber I'm afraid. You can't search for phrases
(yet) and your other search options are cut down too.
Update: it is however now working, i.e. I
fixed the stupid bug I'd added. So you can now search for "all day breakfast
squirrels" and find something.
- There are about 40 messages missing, because the people who sent
them had their clocks set wrong on their computers and they caused
chaos. Messages from 1904 don't work well when you're processing by
date. Still, 40 messages out of 20,000 isn't bad.
Having read all that, here's your cuppa and please proceed to the
links at the top of the page.
Finally, big thanks to www.mail-archive.com for
letting me archive Sinister there, and even putting up with me
changing their software a bit.
This message will disappear.. ooo sometime soon.
