Hello,
Sorry about not replying until now, I'm one of those sorts of people who takes forever writing back these days, and to make matters worse I was out of town for a few days. Well here is the long and short of it, Peter became unable/uninterested in continuing to run Sha-La-La, and initially I felt that it would be a shame if it were to disappear. This attitude was bolstered by the encouragement of Honey and others. So we started to transfer it over to Missprint, and I got Pete to send me the old subscriber list to Sha-La-La. About this time I ran into some acquaintances from Sha-La-La around NYC and discussed the matter with them, and we came to the conclusion that interest, if it was ever there, had probably for the most part waned, and that it was better to let it lay to rest rather than attempting to resuscitate it only to see it die miserably.

I think the real problem was, things got off to a bad start on Sha-La-La. We were so set on making certain it would not end up like the indiepop-list we set about being too constrictive. On top of that, at the time Pete was paying for the bandwidth and it was not entirely cheap, so we limited the membership to 100 so as to prevent his bills from getting unmanageable. This necessitated an odd style of subscribing people, and one that encouraged in people's minds the idea that it was a place for elitists and not of interest to most people. This opinion continued on even when we made the subscriber base free as per your standard list and pretty much stopped enforcing the rules.

So, while I think there is definitely a place for a mailing list of the Sha-La-La sort, I don't think reviving Sha-La-La is a good idea due to all the connotations surrounding it. Therefore, Andreas, if you'd like I can give you the old subscriber list so as to allow you to tell them about your new list. The subscriber list to Sha-La-La as of the moment is I think almost entirely accounted for in replies to your post. So just e-mail me offlist and I'll send you the subscriber list.
