Andreas, are you writing while drunk again?

I was very pleased to see a post to this heretofore
dead list. I had searched, but couldn't find where
the pop fans that preferred expansive posts to the
terse/flippant posts of the indiepop-list had all
gone, and I was becoming angry and listening to live
joy division circa 1979. Luckily, a note from Andreas
a few weeks back pointed out the Tears In X Ray Eyes
7"s and after I had found them at Rough Trade, and
subsequently given them a few spins, found myself back
in a P!O!P! frame of mind.

I am actually kidding about all that. Really, I was
forced to listen to the Joy Division. I just don't
like Ian Curtis' singing. But I wasn' t kidding about
liking the TIXRE singles.

I am going to be in the US with the Clientele in a
weeks time and am hoping to score some new records/CDs
while I am there, so I'm extreemely eager to hear
recommendations.

I think the talk of the "new acoustic" movement has
pretty much died out here in England. Alasdair really
would hate to be included in that group, be it
Source's or Andreas' definition of it. He says that
he mumbles and plays w/ his back turned towards the
side if Erland (Kings of Convenience) is in the
audience, so that he can't steal lyrics or chords.
Personally I can't really hear where the KoC have
stolen anything from the Clientele... but you must
remember that Al knew him when Erland was in
Peachfuzz, and had 20 pedals scattered at his feet.

Everyone rather seems to be talking about Life Without
Buildings who I can't seem to find any merit in. This
bothers me because several people whose taste I
respect really like LWB. I have tried and tried but
just must not "get it", and have angrily described it
as Turret's-syndrome-inspired blabbering over banal
indierock instrumentals. If anyone can help me out
here...

Recently, we have been listening to the Pines demo
tape and the Would-be-goods, and are looking forward
to their upcoming album on Matinee.

Andreas, what was it you didn't like about the Shalala
list and the direction it took? Lack of posts? What?

Also, I'm not sure if I should look forward to the new
Belle and Sebastian EP to be released at the end of
this month.

Anyway, that's enough from me too!

Goodbye, all seven of you!

Marianna
