Hello folks,
hope that all is sound in the land of parkandride, and everything is well with you all. We have just returned to Glaswegian soil from our spanish tour. Big thanks to Elefant for organising it and to everyone who came along. We had a great time in Spain, we're all shattered now, but it was great fun to play so many shows to so many people.
I'll give you a quick run down of what shows we did.
We arrived in Madrid on Tuesday 5th November, playing our first show on the wednesday in Club El Sol, a 500 capacity gaff which we managed to fill (sorry to everyone who didn't get in). It was great fun, everyone seemed to be having a great time. It was also a notable day because i managed to pick up my first injury in the morning when i walked into a a bike lock type thing sticking out of a pole on the pavement and gave myself a nasty cut and a very bruised shin, and my second injury when i did my shoulder in carrying PA gear down to the club. Thursday 7th we headed to Pamplona, unfortuneately we didn't get to run with the bulls. We played in the University refectory, which was interesting. It was good fun, and an early show starting at 7pm. We managed to attract the one scottish person studying on campus out to see us, which was nice. Had a nice aftershow in a club with Luis from elefant DJing. No personal injuries. It was nice to see Aitor (of this parish) again. Friday 8th we headed to Santanderre for the Tanned Tin Festival. It was a beautiful 512 seater theatre. Really nice sound. The auditorium was pitch black so we couldn't see any of the crowd other than the front row, but it was a great show to play. After the show a few of us headed out for a couple of drinks, and i picked up injury number three when i dropped my bottle and cut my thumb trying to pick the glass up (always a good idea). Injury number four was picked up in the middle of the night when i got out of bed (slightly bhrams admittedly) and fell arse over tit over a flight case that i forgot was there (I still have a lovely multi-coloured bruise and scrape on my arm which i suspect will be highly visible on the tv programmes we recorded the next week). Saturday 9th we headed up to La Coruna, to play in the beach club there. Very nice venue right on the beach and right across the road from the Deportivo stadium (the guy that owns the club is the Deportivo president's son). Its was a great crowd and we had a cracking time playing there, and the elefant party in the club afterwards was a lot of fun (THREE NEW ORDER SONGS). Injury number five was only a little one when nigel hit me on the forehead with his music stand whilst packing it away. A very slight cut, hardly a mark on me. Sunday 10th was spent travelling back to Madrid. Three of the band accidentally ate pig's nose. HAHA Monday 11th we filmed a seven song live set for Spanish TV's Radio 3 music show and in the evening a few of us headed into Madrid and met up with the Zephyrs from edinburgh who were (and still are) over touring. 10 scots getting jaked in a madrid bar (two madrid bars) and arguing over which is better Glasgow or Edinburgh - its Glasgow of course, but we all know that anyway). No injuries. Bit of food poisoning. Tuesday 12th (the first birthday of bigest bluest hi fi's release alarmingly) we filmed four songs for another tv show Basic. (i belive they will be shown at the end of this week/start of next week). Tracy, John and Kenny also did some live radio acoustic sessions. Wednesday 12th we were playing back in Madrid in the FNAC shop. We thought it was going to be a little in store thing, not realising that there was an actual room in the shop for live shows and it was pretty big. So we must have had about 200/300 people in the room, and there were lots of people stuck outside listening from the shop floor. It was great fun to play there, and everyone was so receptive. We also got to go to the Camper factory outlet shop (YES) and most of us went camper crazy. We are now Campers Obscura. After the show we headed off to Cadiz for the Thursday. Nearly got injury number six when my gutties slipped on a metal grille and i nearly wernt arse over tit, but it was avoided. Thursday 13th started as we drove down south. Its a very long drive to Cadiz from Madrid and we finally arrived through many storm and fog at 7am, went to bed and up at 2pm. We were playing in University in Real Puerto in a very nice theatre in the uni. We had to head straight back To Madrid after the show and another 7 hour van drive got us back at 5am. Friday 14th, and we headed down to Valencia to play with The Zephyrs, Enon and Polak. It was grand to see the Zephyrs again. Nice to see Jordi again, and Nal (of this Parish) came over too along with my bird, which was nice. Saturday 15th and we headed to Santo Pola near Alicante. A really nice club called camelot (been there. blagged the t-shirt) and a start time of 3am (oops) Everyone was going nuts and it was a cracking atmosphere. And so our Spanish excursion was coming to an end. We had to be at the airport for 9.30am in order to get home. Very big thanks to Luis and Montse and Rafa at Elefant for looking after us and driving us around. Thanks to everyone who turned up at the shows, and all the folks we met up with. Its been a grand two weeks.
So long, and thanks for all the fish....Gav
