It's Art, Dad' - the lost Clientele album recorded
before Suburban Light

Between 1991-1996, in their teens and before a fateful
move to London,
the Clientele existed in complete isolation from any
kind of music
scene, rehearsing in the loft of a thatched cottage in
North East
Hampshire. There, the original members, including
Innes Phillips
before he left to form the Relict, were working
together to create a
unique sound, which is now familar to Clientele fans
the world over.

Back then Innes Phillips and Alasdair MacLean took an
equal share in
songwriting and singing, and Daniel Evans and James
Hornsey provided
the rhythmic bedrock and much needed sense of
sarcastic pessimism.
Several recording sessions took place over the years,
and the cream of
these are presented here, remixed and remastered,
limited to 1000
copies and available only from the Clientele as they
tour, and from
this website.

Containing 16 previously unreleased tracks, 'It's Art,
Dad' shares
many characteristics with the Clientele's debut LP,
Suburban Light, as
the songs and production on both albums were developed
in tandem: in
fact It's Art Dad was sent pretty much in its entirety
to both Sub Pop
and Fire Records in 1996, who sent back very prompt
and polite
rejection letters. The original members went their
separate ways a few
months afterwards and these tapes lay forgotten for
nearly ten years.
Back then the boys thought they would set the charts
alight with their
lo-fi grooving to Syd Barrett, The Zombies and the
13th Floor
Elevators, and now at last we can all share in their
failure.

Tracklisting:
1. Graven Wood
2. Dear Jennifer
3. February Moon
4. Elm Grove Window
5. The Night That Changed Our Minds
6. When She's Tired Of Dancing
7. Untitled #2
8. The Evening In Your Eyes
9. St James' Walk
10. Shadow Of Your Life
11. August Sky
12. The Words We Knew
13. St Paul's Beneath A Sinking Sky
14. Can't Sleep
15. Sweeten Your Eyes
16. Graven Wood (rehearsal)

Hello Lacewings List:

We just got the CDs delivered tonight! Tomorrow I'll
go to the post office and figure out how much shipping
costs will be and then I'll put a page up on the
website with all the ordering information - hopefully
with some music as well.

The band will have them to sell at shows by Oct 8th in
Offenbach.

Exciting!
-Marianna
